PowerPoint 2010: Insert Screenshot

Did you know that you can insert a screenshot in PowerPoint 2010? I did know that but had not thought about the possibilities. Since the screenshot is inserted as a graphic you can add text, shapes, etc. and then, using screen clipping, save the edited screenshot as a graphic to use in any program or to email, etc. This article, PowerPoint 2010: Inert Screenshot, explains the process and even includes helpful screenshots.

Acrobat Pro 10 can be your hero

One of the biggest complaints I have heard about PDF files is the inability to edit. Regardless how many times, users are told to save the original Word or Excel file to edit at a later time, that original always seems to get lost.

There have been converters pop up over the years, but I have never heard of any really working to folks' liking. Of course, you can always copy and paste the text for an ungainly unformatted look into a document. Desperate but ugly.

Now, Acrobat Pro 10 has added that ability to convert a PDF to Microsoft Word (.doc and .docx), and it seems to work. At least better than previous external applications (both free and paid). My recent sample attempt did not bring over math symbols, but the overall formatting in the new Word document looked pretty darned good.

With so many programs now able to convert their files to PDF, the purchase of Acrobat has become less attractive in the last few years. This latest feature, however, could be worth taking another look.

Collaborate in PowerPoint and Excel

"Have you ever emailed a version of a document to colleagues, waited for their replies, and merged their changes in? It’s a slow and difficult approach to collaboration.

With oneDrum it’s easy to:

  • Share documents with colleagues, and keep those versions up to date

  • Know when they start and stop editing the document

  • See their changes to the document as they make them"
With oneDrum there is no need to learn new programs. Just use the Office programs (presently Excel and PowerPoint but Word will be added later this year) as usual and always have the most up-to-date version of a shared document saved on your computer. Watch as colaborators make changes. And, think what a valuable tool oneDrum might be for your students involved in a group project! Check out the videos below to better understand the benefits.

Text Fixer

Text Fixer is a free online tool that converts the contents of a doc or docx file to HTML code, producing a much cleaner html code than Word. The converter strips many unnecessary styles and extra mark-up codes which, in turn, produces cleaner, easily editable pages in ANGEL. Text Fixer does not preserve images but it does preserve links and other basic formatting like bolding, bullets, tables, etc. in the conversion process.

  1. Copy the text from your Word document

  2. Paste the code into the Word-to-html-Converter

  3. Click the Convert Word to HTML button and Text Fixer will produce the clean code

  4. Copy the code

  5. Click Settings on your ANGEL page

  6. Click the Source icon in the tools at the top of the HTML editor

  7. Paste the copied code in the Source of your ANGEL page

  8. Click the Source icon again

  9. Save

Voila, you have a clean ANGEL page. The page will look better and be much easier to edit than if copied directly from Word.
