Online storytelling tips and a bit more

Online storytelling

I recently presented at SIDLIT, a compendium of my experience and perspectives on online instructor notes.
This article would have been perfect annotation to help instructors engage their students with their 'notes' in whatever form they chose to use.

But beyond the content I wanted to point out the format of the article. We are becoming more aware that online reading is scanning, a process akin to skimming the headlines of the newspaper first, and then going back to look for more detail.

Note that this article features a box on the right title Key Takeaways.  It condenses in a few sentences the gist of the article, drawing readers in, or sending them away without much delay.

Hopefully, the technique doesn't backfire when it comes to students, but it is a format worth considering.
