Listen to William Faulkner

The University of Virginia houses a collection of manuscripts and writings by William Faulkner. The library collection also includes audio recordings of Faulkner's speaking engagements during his time as writer-in-residence at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville in the late 1950's. The audio recordings contain 28 hours of speeches, his readings of some of his works and questions posed by students.

Awesome Highlighter

Awesome Highlighter lets you highlight text on web pages and then gives you a link to the highlighted page.  You can also add notes that the reader can Show/Hide. This allows you to readily direct students to the information on the page that you want them to read. Awesome Highlighter works best in FireFox. "JOG THE WEB is a web-based tool that allows anyone to create a synchronous guide to a series of web sites. Its step by step approach of taking viewers through web sites allowing the author to annotate and ask guiding questions for each page is unique".

You can search and link to jogs created by others or make your own. This is a great way to lead students through a series of web pages. You can make notes for students along the way for each site. Give it a try and start creating your own Jogs.

This is a pretty interesting video about the sheer volume of information in our world today, how it is growing exponentially and what this means to our students and to us, as educators.
Angela Maiers stated at a recent conference that students no longer need quick answers; they have Google in their pocket! They need to be incredible question askers and translators. “The world’s language is not a five paragraph essay. It comes in the form of images, music, art, and heartfelt emotion.”
We must teach kids how to be worthy of being listened to.
